About Me

My name is Rachael Johnson and I am a professional wedding planner and designer. I graduated from the University of Virginia in 2013 and began my career in Northern Virginia. For better or worse, I have always been a planner. Once, my husband attempted to surprise me with a trip on my birthday. As nice as it was, I was appalled not be fully prepared and have a detailed outline of events to maximize our vacation time. I truly enjoy the intricacies and nuances of planning. That's not to say I can't be spontaneous or daring. I love a challenge and am always seeking self improvement. I've gone rappelling off cliffs, trained with Marines, and lived in Russia for a summer. I pride myself on my integrity and I try to be as honest and fair with people as possible.

Because I am always seeking new skills, my skills can range from researching to handcrafting glass mosaics. I find that I have a hard time sticking to just one craft and have done everything from jewelry making to hand painting and designing my own wedding invitations. I find that I cannot settle for things that are "close" to what I want. If I can't find something I love, I normally will try to make it myself to make it exactly the way I want it. I am excited to offer a wedding planning service that I would use — dedicated to delivering handcrafted, personalized designs.

I really enjoy getting to meet new people and make new connections. I like to have a good time and can laugh at myself. Yes, I think I am hilarious and will laugh at my own jokes. Sometimes I will even get a couple of pity laughs! My own wedding was a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic in August 2015 and I designed all of the details. I am unfortunately very familiar with all of the headaches of destination wedding planning. My husband, Joe, is a mechanical engineer and likes to share his technical expertise on many of my crazy ideas. Our only "child" is a wonderful yellow labrador named Reptar (reference to a 90's tv show) who loves to play and swim! He is also an intense guard dog over our home and loves to snarl and bark at the mailman, who, according to Reptar, is trying to break into our home everyday.

Overall, I just try to be an approachable, reasonable, and well rounded person. Please feel free to reach out to me by phone or email and let's set up a time to talk about your wedding vision.
